Tom chairs the BDO Indirect Tax Centre of Excellence focusing on the service levels and requirements of global businesses and leads our Customs Duty and VAT practice in the UK.
Tom has over 30 years’ experience advising global businesses on their Indirect Tax issues. Having worked in both the tax authority and industry, Tom focuses on pragmatic strategies for mitigating undue VAT and Duty costs and has particular experience of global supply chain issues having worked on global projects for several high profile organisations.
Tom started his career as a VAT Inspector for HM Customs and Excise and was involved in the development and training of other Inspectors. He spent a number of years in industry working for the European HQ of a large US multinational where he also headed up the European Logistics Group and the European Risk Management team. Tom also spent two years based in the USA where he headed the Indirect Tax team of a large accountancy firm. Tom has worked on the Indirect Tax affairs of some of the largest corporate businesses and has undertaken projects in over 50 countries.
