Global Media M&A values were just over USD $40 billion in the first half of 2020, according to the latest edition of MEDIAtalk. In a year that has posed immense difficulties for M&A there have also been surprising opportunities in Media M&A.

The pandemic had a predictably negative impact on media M&A as logistical complications and digital processes have compounded the usual issues around deal-making. On the other hand, Private Equity is making a growing contribution to deal values and is involved in more deals that in FY2019.

Our Spotlight in this edition is on the Latin America and on Costa Rica as microcosm of the trends driving the media market. The Latin American media market is wrestling with digitisation and the move to digital solutions as well as the realignment of business models in the search for resilience and future-proofing.
