Why sustainability matters at BDO
There is a growing business imperative to address sustainability across the board. Sustainability is the overarching term we use to describe our efforts to minimise our negative impact on the world and it is core to our strategic ambition.

Our sustainability approach aims to create and foster long-term benefits by taking into consideration how we operate within an increasingly complex environment, one that encompasses diversity and inclusion, climate change, #blacklivesmatter, pollution, corruption, #metoo, human rights and employee welfare, supply chain scandals – and the broadening material risks that all businesses face.
There is a demand for transparency and accountability in environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters, which calls for better understanding of the impact of business and industry on the environment and our societies - and an effective response. For both BDO and on behalf of our clients, our objective is to be able to recognise threats, mitigate risk and capitalise on development opportunities.
BDO is leading by example: as a member of the Net-Zero Financial Service Providers Alliance (NZFSPA), the BDO global network has committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 or sooner, in alignment with the Paris Agreement. BDO's global Net-Zero programme provides all BDO firms with a standardised global methodology and approach that supports implementation through the carbon baseline emissions calculation, Net-Zero target setting and annual reporting steps. This will ensure the consistency of BDO’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and the reduction targets that BDO will be reporting on as a global organisation.
Sustainability is a journey and there will always be more work to be done. BDO continues to adapt our strategy, our service offering and the way we work to meet the sustainability expectations of all our stakeholders in order to protect our environment, our business and the interests of generations to come.
